Bunker Fuel 101

Bunker oil is generally any type of fuel oil used aboard ships. We can distinguish between two main types: distillate fuels and residual fuels. Marine fuels are classified using the “Bunker ABC”: Bunker A corresponds to the distillate fuel oil No. 2 Bunker B is a No. 4 or No. 5  fuel oil Bunker C corresponds to the residual fuel oil No. 6 No. 6 is the most common oil, that's why "bunker fuel" is often used as a synonym for the No. 6 residual fuel oil which requires heating before the oil can be pumped. No. 5 fuel oil is also called “navy special”. No. 5 or No. 6 also furnace fuel oil (FFO).  In the maritime field another classification is used: MGO (Marine Gas Oil): a distillate fuel oil (No. 2, Bunker A) MDO (Marine Diesel Oil): a blend of MGO and HFO IFO (Intermediate Fuel Oil): a blend of MGO and HFO, with less gasoil than MDO MFO (Medium Fuel Oil): a blend of MGO and HFO, with less gasoil than IFO HFO (Heavy Fuel Oil): a residual fuel oil (No. 6, Bunker C)...

10 steps for securing steady streams of plastics in a NHE new plant

Secure contracts with one or more Commercial Plastic producers near the plant, for their waste. Approach nearby cities with PAYT programs and find out how we can acquire their residential plastic waste. Find Post industrial plastic re-grinders in the area and find out how they dispose of regrinds they can't sell Reach out to closed-Loop production-recycle networks in the area-find out what plastics they are having a hard time getting rid of. Study the local requirements for landfill operators to find out if they have intake reduction required goals in their contracts. Approach them and see what they do with plastics they can't sell. Study large industries in the area to see if they generate plastic containers that are too dirty to recycle cost effectively, like plastic tanks in the oil industry, plastic barrels from chemical and food production companies, damaged plastic shipping containers, etc. They all have waste reduction groups in their headquarters. Approach majo...

Waste Management Changing Trends

Many Landfill no longer charge for recyclables or yard waste, as an incentive to bring them separated waste There are a growing number of cities that are adding sticks to the carrots in their waste recycling enforcement programs, like pay as you throw program s. Pay-as-You-Throw programs

Pay-as-You-Throw programs, which charge residents for garbage bags. The municipal garbage trucks won’t pick up any trash that’s not in marked Malden bags, which cost $1 for a 15-gallon bag, $2 for a 33-gallon bag. Since residents have to now pay for every garbage bag they use, the thinking goes, they’ll recycle and compost more. The city picks up recycling and yard waste for free. Malden, MA

Energy Bag Program- A retail plastic Gathering Solution

Study done in 2014 in By Dow-Republic-Aglyx-Flexible Packing Association Reported on again in 2016 By Recycling Today 2018- implemented in the city of  Boise with Renewology Program: Program has three parts: 8 gallon plastic bags and marketing campaigns educating Homes on plastic types into bags that optimize Pyrolysis. City collects and delivers them to the plant. Study Results of note: Mixed results and cost effectiveness overall. 8 gallon plastic bag is a good size for weekly pickup Consumers were 80% compliant with contents 1.4 Million households would be required to support a 50 TPD pyrolysis plant Program has not been pursued since until this year, city of Boise ID which is near Salt Lake city, they site Boise putting new punitive fines in place on citizens in light of China waste Ban

1-2018 Competitor review

News: A New project has just been announced to promote plastics as Fuel.  Plastic Odyssey  is a  non profit that is building a 25 meter demonstration ship that will use only plastics as fuel . In fall of 2019 it will start a 3 year round- the-world tour to promote plastics as fuel. They will gather plastics as fuel at each port from waste, and process it on board the ship. Not a competitor, but it will surely increase acceptance of plastics based fuel for ships. A Chinese Company CYReports is  soliciting buyers  for  $3300 report on the Global Plastics to oil Industry they will do in the 1st Quarter of 2018. They list many of the companies we track as primary players. This shows that they think there is increasing interest in this market. Argonne Labs produced a government study last May that Green House Gas Emissions are substantially reduced in the Plastic to oil process. Report...

A floating Recycling Plant Fueled by the Garbage itself

What if there were a floating Recycling Plant operating in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch that would be fueled by the Garbage itself? What if it  was non-profit? What if it was largely staffed by volunteer Groups? What would it look like? Power for the plant and fuel for its engines would be generated  by Plastic to Oil and syn-gas generated by a Plastic Pyrolysis plant. Plastic gathered from the patch would be used for its fuel. Usable materials would be reduced in size and offload for sale to which ever country it was nearest. The vast plastics would eliminate the fuel costs. Groups of volunteers would live in shifts on the floating plant, housed in a recycled tanker fueled by Plastic Oil. The vast quantities of plastic in the patch used to fuel it, and would never go into a landfill, and fuel would never have to be shipped to the tanker. As a non-profit, the venture could be underwritten by foundations. When the patch was processed the tanker would go to another ...
