Program:
Program has three parts: 8 gallon plastic bags and marketing campaigns educating Homes on plastic types into bags that optimize Pyrolysis. City collects and delivers them to the plant.

Study Results of note: Mixed results and cost effectiveness overall.

  • 8 gallon plastic bag is a good size for weekly pickup
  • Consumers were 80% compliant with contents
  • 1.4 Million households would be required to support a 50 TPD pyrolysis plant
Program has not been pursued since until this year, city of Boise ID which is near Salt Lake city, they site Boise putting new punitive fines in place on citizens in light of China waste Ban

HiIgh 4-ethyl phenol (4-EP) using activated carbon (AC)

China Study shows that  highest quality  4-ethyl phenol (4-EP)  was produced at 300 Degrees C Fast pyrolysis of bagasse catalyzed by activated carbon (AC) at low temperatures offered a new and promising way to produce the valuable 4-ethyl phenol (4-EP) compound in high selectivity. In this study, the technique of pyrolysis-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS) was first applied to investigate several factors on the 4-EP production, including biomass type, fast pyrolysis temperature, AC-to-bagasse ratio, and catalytic pattern (in situ or ex situ catalysis). Moreover, fast pyrolysis experiments by using AC catalyst were conducted in a lab-scale setup to quantitatively determine the pyrolytic products. Catalytic Pyrolysis Study

This Study seems to be on behalf of the KSA (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) reaching towards goal of an energy circular economy. Natural Zeolite is a cheap local product there and they wanted to try it out. In the Catalytic process, the catalytic process enhances the target pyrolysis reactions and reduces reaction times and temperature, improves the liquid oil quality and increased the overall process efficiency (quote from a 2012 article).
